When Tint Jobs Go Bad

Recently, we've been spending a little extra time on the cars that have come in to our shop. Not because of our own mistakes but because of our competitors mistakes. Not only do we fix the $89 tint jobs, but we replace it with the HIGHEST quality film on the market.

In this economy, people want the lowest prices around, which is understandable. However, you always get what you pay for. Paying $89 on a tint job may seem like the most logical thing to do, yet what people don't understand is that the guys charging that much to tint your car is using garbage film that doesn't last that long, and you're getting maybe a decent job out of it, but not the BEST possible job you can get. And when it goes bad in a couple of years, you're stuck either replacing it, or driving around with it purple/bubbled/peeling. And when you decide to go back again and get the $89 tint job the second go around, 9 times out of 10 they won't take they're time, and end up scraping the defrosters, and antennas off your back window. But 9 out of 10 times we can find a way around scraping off your defroster. We take our time using our own different methods to get the old film off without ruining the defroster. So in the long run, you're spending more to replace it then just spending a little more in here up front, and getting a better job, and better quality film, WITH a LIFETIME free replacement warranty to boot.

We had the pleasure of replacing an example of such a tint job today, and had to remove old purple film that was originally put on it only a couple years ago..

Come visit us instead of taking your car back to the other guys, we'll replace it with the BEST film, and the BEST installation money can buy. Call us today for a free quote to remove and replace the old purple film on your car! We promise you'll never want to take it anywhere else!

Plotting Vs. Hand-Cutting

Man Versus Machine

Most tint shops lately have been wanting to drive home the concept of using a Plotter instead of hand-cutting on the glass. But frankly, their simply trying to scare the customers into thinking we'll destroy their glass, and interior. However compelling to customers this may sound, what they don't say is that there's no way to go about prepping the glass for window film without taking a razor blade to it. Not to mention, the plotter only squares out a back window, the film still needs to be heat-shrunk, and cut on the glass to fit properly. There's NO OTHER WAY AROUND IT. Period. The tinter's that cut up your glass are either inexperienced, using the wrong blades, or are just simply trying to rush and pressing too hard.
People might say we're not up to date on the times, but by buying expensive technology that we're not used to using could develop conflicting results, and it doesn't necessarily mean we're cheap either! Think about it. We've been hand-cutting the film on the glass for over three decades now. (without any complaints about scratched glass I might add) To suddenly start using pre-cut window patterns would waste more time than we're presumed to save. Another downfall would be relying on patterns that don't take into consideration gaps in moldings, and windows shifting from general wear and tear. We're to rely on a machine now to account for the unexpected?
I'm not trying to bash plotters, because we've tried them before, and they do have they're advantages. For the inexperienced tinters, they work better than trying to learn how to hand-cut on the glass at first. They also work better for employers training the first timer's. But our results with the plotters were unsatisfactory, and sticking to what we're best at seemed logical. We wasted more time adjusting blades and readjusting blades time and time again than just taking our time to make it perfect the first time.
For the most part, we can cut patterns out without even touching the glass on your side windows, and we already have a large collection of pre-cut patterns of our own. Most of the time, your door windows virtually never have to be touched with a knife, we can use the top part of the window as a template, and cut out the more detailed part on a cutting-board with a light behind it. However, like we previously stated, there's no way around cutting on the back window, even with a plotter. Our opinion on plotters is that they can't match the shear perfection that comes with a steady-hand of 33years experience behind it.

Cutting on a light-board, against our own pre-cut patterns, and NOT on your windows! NO Plotter Necessary!

2010 Chevy Camaro

Like the majority of our repeat customers, this one brought in his new 2010 Chevy Camaro because he trusted only us to do the work. Instead of getting it done at the dealer, he decided to turn down their offer of a free tint job, and take it to us, because we've done all of his cars for probably 20 years now. When this car was on special order he came in and talked to us about what he wanted on it. We used Llumar's ATR film on the car, we wanted to make sure that he had the best of the best film on this car.

This day was truly one of long term customers all day long. We had another customer come in that had a new Toyota Avalon, and I have been doing cars for them since I was 16. He is always happy with our work. He has told us that he will never take his car's anywhere else. We used LLumar's ATR films once again for him.
Our relationships with customers remain focused on providing the high-touch and personalized service that sets us apart. We are dedicated to providing high quality service to meet the varied and specific needs of our customers. When you are happy than we are happy! The highest compliment our customers can give is the referral of their friends, family, and business associates.

Our Advanced Film Solutions -- Saving You Money All Year Long!

The U.S. Department of Energy Has Declared October to be Energy Awareness Month

Window Film is one of the best ways to cut energy bills, make older houses more energy-efficient, and increase the energy efficiency of newer houses.

  • Cut Energy Bills By Up To 30%: Window films reject solar energy, keeping your rooms cooler, and reducing the use of cooling systems especially in commercial buildings.
  • Save on your 2009 taxes: The Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 reinstated Federal tax credits for consumers who make certain energy-efficient improvements to their homes.

Saving on Your Energy Bills Year-round

Cooling costs related to the heat gained through windows can make up about 40% of a home's summer utility bill. Solar control window film reduces total solar energy by up to 80%, which helps lower your energy consumption.

In addition to energy savings all year long, window film can also:

  • Improve your comfort by eliminating hot spots and maintaining interior temperatures.
  • Reduces glare
  • Helps protect from UV exposure
  • Reduces fading of furnishings and interiors
  • Help keep the dangerous shards together upon impact, due to accidents or attempted break-ins, for a safer home

Eligibility Of Tax Credits & How to Receive Them
Any Homeowner who Purchases and installs qualifying brands of window film on windows, doors, and skylights between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2010 is eligible to receive a 2009 tax credit. This tax credit applies to improvements made to a primary residence.

If you itemize energy-related purchases on your federal income tax form, it will lower the total amount of tax you owe the government. Homeowners can receive a 10% credit on the total cost of the window film, up to $500.(Under section 25C of the Internal Revenue Code (I.R.C.), homeowners can receive a 10% credit on the costs of "qualified energy efficient improvments", Window Film qualifies as insulation for the purposes of the credit). Installation does not apply, only the cost of the film.

Eligible Building Envelope Component
An Insulation material that is specifically and primarily designed to reduce heat loss or gain of a residence.

How to Receive Credit
Complete IRS form 5695 and file 2009 Tax Returns by April 15, 2010. Maintain copies of the dealer invoice and the manufacturer's certification statement for your records. If you are audited, you will need to provide these documents to the IRS. For further information about tax credits, visit energy star website or U.S. Department of Energy website

Panorama Solar Control Window Film Products That Qualify for Federal Tax Credits

Under the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 several Panorama window film products qualify for Federal tax credits. Tax credits for these residential products, which had expired at the end of 2007, will now be available for improvements made during 2009.

Qualifying Components
See table to determine Panorama solar-control window film qualifying products for climate zone 2, and various windows.

Instructions

  • Certified products are sorted by zone then window configuration.
1.For each window determine the glazing construction (glass and frame type) of the residence. Glazing type can include single pane clear, single pane tinted, double pane (IG) clear, double pane (IG) tinted, winter low-e or summer low-e. Frame type can include aluminum, wood or vinyl.
2.Qualifying products designated with a "YES" and are found to be in compliance with the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 for that climate zone and window configuration.

Additional notes

  • For storm windows use the double pane clear, or double pane tinted configuration for determining product compliance.
  • Compliance is not dependent on other factors, such as, trees, bushes, adjacent buildings, internal or external shaded devices (screens, blinds, curtains) nor is the orientation of the windows with the residence.
  • If unable to determine the exact glass type use the more conservative value. If you do not know if a window is clear or low-e use the clear. If you know the glazing has a low-e coatin but do not know the type use the winter low-e column.
  • Use of the Panorama solar safety versions is allowed as long as the standard film is also a qualifying product.

We are the only EXCLUSIVE Panorama Dealer for the entire Pasco County area, so we are knowledgeable on all the qualifying products. If you're still unclear on any information, ask our Installer about any of these qualifying Panorama Products.

The Real Truth About Hurricane Film

There are a lot of company's out there that market their films as a Hurricane film, however that is not true. No film is truly a hurricane film, and no film is full proof when it comes to a storm. We carry films like the others do, however we classify them as safety & security films because that is what they truly are. There are many types of this film on the market, and just like anything else there is the good and the bad. There are also many different manufactures of the films to.

To start we are not trying to talk you out of a security film in any way; it does have it's advantage. It still holds glass together upon impact. Right now, if something does impact the window with nothing on it, it will shatter into lots of pieces, the film will help hold it together. Window film will also help strengthen the glass some but will never exceed what your window is rated for. We just don't want it to be sold and/or miss lead as the sole hurricane protection; although it is a partial hurricane protection. When you compare it to other hurricane protection it is an excellent bargain.

Comparing it to hurricane shutters or laminate windows, it is a considerable amount cheaper. Directly comparing the two laminate window are more than 10 times the cost of the window film. If your windows are newer and in good condition ( window wind speed 125mph or greater ) with the film on them they are very close to the same strength as the a laminate window, which most of them are rated at 155mph, the film would carry the same wind speed as the window is rated for. Now that we have compared window film to laminate windows lets compare it to shutters. With shutters most of your general shutters are four times of the cost of the film and might only be used once or twice every couple if years. They also have to be stored if you have corrugated shutters and maintenanced if you have roll up shutters, which can be costly. Window film on the other hand is up all the time, working every day for solar control, which is cost return right away. There is no maintenance, no storage, no pre-storm assembly, and no loss of view during a storm. With window film you not only get 98% UV protection you also get up to a 70% heat reduction with a tinted film. By the time you use your shutters a couple of times the film will have already paid for its self and saved you money.

To sum everything up, we are not trying to talk you out of film because in most cases it is the most economical choice for window protection. Now with progress energy giving a rebate, and with a tax rebate, it makes it more economical to choose film over shutters than it ever has. Hopefully this has helped you in your search for film and has answered some of your questions. There is still a lot more information that pertains to window film, and this issue. Commercial & Residential Window Tinting

This week we finished up a buliding that we were working on here in Port Richey. We used Suntek's symphony syds 25, which has a 70% heat reduction, and a 98% UV block. We have always been a hard core Llumar, and Solar Guard dealer. However, we decided to try a new line of film, which seemed to be better suited for the owners needs. The customer wanted something to match the building, and wanted something to have a slight blue cast looking in and out of. Also something to have the max amount of heat reduction with the least amount of light lost. This film gave a very slight blue gray cast looking both ways. When we first went to measure this job he was interested in panaroma window film, however we explained to him that it would not look the way that he wanted and that it would have a slight bronze cast looking in. We were not trying to talk him out of the panaroma considering we are the only panarama dealers in the area. We just did not want to sell him something that after talking with him would not end up being what he wanted. We always try to meet all customers needs and do not like to sell something that is not needed or something that is not along the lines of what they want.

Thus far we really liked the way that this film goes on and the way that it looked. This film also comes with a 15 year commercial warranty, which is longer than any other commercial warranties. We're very happy with the look, and performance of this film. SunTek also carries a variety of other films equivalent in quality and performance to many other films on the market.

Classic Car Tinting

We work on all types of cars old and new! Yesterday we worked on this 1966 Chevy Chevelle, and it turned out perfect. The owner takes it to show's and when we were finished with the car he was extremely happy with the results. This customer came to us from a referral from another customer, which is where we get most of our business. It is the best kind of advertisement. We may sometimes take a little longer to do a car, however that is how I have been tinting since I was 15. There are some advantages to it taking a little longer; every car turns out with show quality, perfection, and 100% customer satisfaction. We put Llumar's ATR series on this entire car. Which is their top of the line film. It is a metalized based film for heat reduction and it blocks 98% of the UV rays. If you are in the market to get your car tinted keep in mind that there are a lot of films on the market out there. Make sure you know what you are getting before you get it done. A lot of places are using cheaper films to lower the cost, and that is not always the best thing. You also need to make sure that you are getting a quality product for your money. So before you use the rest come see the best. We here at National Window Film look forward to serving you!!!
